Permanent GHR Dogs

GHR Ambassador Milo
When we pulled Milo from Downey shelter in November 2024, he was isolated from other dogs and the public for approximately two months. We quickly learned that Milo suffered from extreme separation anxiety, especially in any type of confined area and also struggled with resource guarding, which escalated to biting. Milo has made tremendous progress since we pulled him from the shelter and placed him in training. We are so proud of him and love this boy so much.
Milo is now part of our permanent Green Heart Rescue pack and serves as one of our "Ambassadors".

GHR Ambassador Raven
Raven joined our rescue in February 2022 after generous transport volunteers brought her to us from Texas.
Raven was diagnosed with mammary carcinoma after a cancerous tumor was removed during her time in the shelter. She also tested positive for heartworm, which is rampant in Texas. After learning she was in the shelter for a few months with no interest, we knew she was the perfect girl for us.
Raven saw the cardiologist at West Vet. Special thanks to Dr Arndt and Shayla for squeezing her in last minute so that she could have an echocardiogram to help us determine how bad the heartworm is. A single heartworm was seen in her right main pulmonary artery. She likely has some degree of pulmonary hypertension but nothing significant that requires extra steps.
At the time we decided to move forward with the adulticide protocol, which is intense. It did not appear that the mammary carcinoma spread-no swollen lymph nodes, no signs of any other masses and she appears to be healthy and strong. Although, to cover all bases, we talked with an oncologist at West Vet.
Raven has adjusted nicely to her new life. She’s dignified and proud to be recognized with such love and appreciation. Thank you to everyone that makes it possible for us to help dogs like Raven. We really love her!

Jelly Bean
Jelly Bean (16 years old) is one of our permanent hospice dogs and will remain with Kelly Neubauer in Jackson, Wyoming. Kelly has extensive experience with senior dogs and their special needs. Any dog in Kelly’s care is a lucky one, for sure! Thank you, Kelly!
Jelly Bean joined our rescue in November 2024. She has adjusted to her new life and is feeling better thanks to a consistent pain management protocol for her arthritic spine & infected mouth.
Jelly Bean’s Story: Jelly Bean’s previous owner (who she spent most of her life with), suddenly passed in 2023. Family members moved into the house where Jelly Bean was living, but rather than care for Jelly Bean, they placed her in a bedroom in December 2023 where she was forced to live. They never let her out of the room and rarely fed her. Several months later, another family member was able to get her out of her house. Shortly after, we were contacted…and of course, Kelly was top of our mind for Jelly Bean. Kelly didn’t hesitate and brought Jelly Bean into her home and heart.
Whenever we bring in new dogs, they each go through a vetting process to determine if they’ll stay with us or if they’ll be adoptable. We consider all factors. In Jelly Bean’s case, we felt it was important that she have stability for whatever remaining time she may have left rather than wonder if someone will adopt her.
When we have reliable foster families that are willing to commit to a senior dog that has been deemed hospice, we are able to fulfill our mission.
If our mission resonates with you and you’re able to donate, we are always in need of donations to fund the medical needs of all of our dogs.

Falkor & Atreyu
These two handsome boys were surrendered together.
Unfortunately, they had to be separated at the shelter.
When we were notified about them, we were shown a video of the pitbull taking a walk. During his walk, he noticed another dog across the way from him. He literally stopped in his tracks and started wagging his tail when he realized it was his brother.
There was no way we weren’t going to take both of them. Green Heart Rescue brought them into our pack in August 2023. 💚
Now that they get their second chance, we started off their fresh start with new names. Continuing with a literary theme, we felt *Neverending Story* vibes from them. The shepherd was named Falkor, after the dragon. The pit bull was named Atreyu, after the boy that relied on Falkor to help save the world.

Gretel
Gretel was pulled from the Weiser pound in March 2024. In April 2024, we rushed Gretel to the ER because she was showing symptoms of pyometra. After multiple diagnostic tests, including bloodwork, a urinalysis, x-rays, an ultrasound, and a cat-scan, the only diagnosis she was given was sepsis. However, it was never discovered what caused the sepsis, even after all of the tests. Miraculously, Gretel was able to recover from the sepsis through medical intervention. 🙏🙌 She is back to her spicy little self. 🥰 🌶️
We are very grateful to everyone that makes it possible for us to help dogs like Gretel. It’s hard enough that they are abandoned for whatever reasons, but to adjust to a new environment while dealing with medical issues is challenging for some of our dogs, especially the spicy ones like Gretel. We have decided that Gretel will remain with us and be a permanent part of our GHR Chihuahua Bouquet.
💐 💚
Thank you to all that support our mission, and for trusting us with such precious souls.

Lala
Meet Lala! This spunky little girl is one of our special needs dogs.
Lala is ~9 year old chihuahua mix. She has intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), which gives her pain in her back legs and has led to incontinence. There are a lot of treatment options for her pain, ranging from medication to acupuncture. As far as the incontinence goes, she just wears a fashionable diaper 💁🏼♀️
Despite any pain from her IVDD, this girl lives for fetch. She LOVES it! Lala gets along with other dogs, but during fetch may get a bit ✨bossy✨. At only ~9 years old Lala has a lot of spunk and is very lovable.
With her special needs, Lala’s expenses are higher than some of our other dogs. There are both cloth and disposable diapers on our Amazon wishlist for her if you’d like to help expand her wardrobe. For more information on other ways to sponsor Lala, email greenheartrescue@gmail.com or visit greenheartrescue.org

Callie
Update for Callie coming soon!

Ringo
Ringo has been with Green Heart Rescue for more than four years. He was rescued on the border between El Paso, Texas and Mexico.
Due to his ongoing respiratory & gastrointestinal issues, he is one of our permanent hospice dogs. He's been stable for quite some time, but we wanted to commit to his medical needs as the little dude clearly went through a lot in his life before rescue.

Cooper & Maverick
Copper & Maverick are a part of our permanent hospice program.
Copper has seizures that are currently managed with medication. Maverick is blind.

Dally
Dally has been with us since July 2023. We pulled him from the Stockton, California shelter after being notified that he was at risk of euthanasia. He was suffering from extreme kennel stress. Not only was he in an overcrowded & noisy shelter, but he was in the shelter right around the time of Fourth of July. He would get so stressed that he’d scratch the door of his kennel to the point of making his paws bleed.
Dally says: “My name is Dallas, but I go by the name Dally, like from the novel “The Outsiders”. I’m a Silly Dilly Dally who simply wants to please the people around me. I love to eat, go on walks, and rest by the feet of the people I love.

JJ
JJ is one of our permanent hospice dogs. He joined Green Heart Rescue in June 2022. He arrived with a broken leg that healed broken, beyond surgical repair. He also had a weak patella that was compromised from the broken leg, causing him to be a bi-pod. On top of his mobility challenges, JJ has kidney disease that we are managing through a holistic diet.
JJ is the perfect combination of love & resiliency.

Moose
Moose is one of our permanent dogs. He joined us in July 2020 from an overcrowded shelter where a gas chamber is still in use for euthanasia.
We make sure that all of our permanent dogs have a medical assessment at least once a year, sometimes twice a year based on any chronic concerns.
Moose’s estimated age is 14. He’s covered in skin tags, is toothless, and has a rickety spine….which means he’s perfect!💚 His bloodwork results showed that he is in excellent health for his age…everything was within the healthy range!
Other than needing some pain management for his spine, Moose is thriving on a homemade diet.
We can’t express how much we love this little 4.8 pound chihuahua that makes us laugh every single day. We can assure you that Moose feels our love and reciprocates it endlessly. From his noises that sound like a donkey to his bouncy walk that makes him look like he has springs on his feet, we know how lucky we are to have him.
When you donate to Green Heart Rescue, whether it’s through our Amazon wishlist or through monetary donations, you make it possible for us to cover costs for wellness exams, pain medicine, fresh foods for homemade meals, cleaning supplies, supplements, etc.
Our wishlist includes Visa gift cards to help purchase fresh foods that are needed for homemade food that we make for many of our little dogs like Moose. We purchase 5-pound chubs of ground turkey from Winco, a variety of organ meats, fruits, vegetables, canned pumpkin, oysters/sardines and grains, usually rotating between millet or quinoa.
However you support us, please know that you make a difference for our senior dogs. You make it possible for us to save them and to love them, which is what they’ve always deserved. Thank you.

Junior
At the end of 2022, Junior’s life wasn’t going so well. He was in out and of the shelter for several years, with multiple shelter notes about him being underweight.
His previous family finally surrendered him to the shelter in February 2023, where he was close to euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding.
Junior was our first save of 2023…and of course, he instantly stole my heart and quickly moved to high status as one of GHR’s ambassadors.
Each time I look at Junior, I’m filled with so much gratitude, knowing I’m not alone in this tough world of rescue. It is because of GHR supporters & good friends that Junior was able to join Green Heart Rescue.
Whether you support us through positive words, friendship…or support the rescue through donating, fostering or volunteering, you’re making it possible for GHR to save lives.
Thank you to everyone that played a part in Green Heart Rescue in 2023…for being a part of Junior’s journey and for helping us save many other senior dogs in 2023.
Whether you realize it or not, your impact makes a difference in the lives of senior dogs and the humans that work hard for them!
